The steps after your first call
Five steps, most of them quieter than people expect.
- 01
Step 1: You call or send a message
Tell us a little about what is going on and the safe way to reach you. We reply within one business day.
- 02
Step 2: We meet, in person or not
At the nearest office, or by phone or video. We listen first, then explain your options and what each would cost.
- 03
Step 3: A short written plan
If you hire us, you get a letter that lists what we will file, when, and what the fee covers.
- 04
Step 4: The case itself
We file, negotiate and go to hearings with you. Before each step you know what it is for and what to bring.
- 05
Step 5: When life changes later
Orders sometimes need changing as children grow. Call the same lawyer when yours does.
While the case runs, home keeps going
We schedule around school pickups and shifts where we can, and we keep the children out of the paperwork. If a hearing date lands on a hard week, tell us; sometimes it can move.
You won't have to repeat your story to a new person each time you call. The lawyer who met you first stays on your case.

Questions about fees and timing
How do you charge?
Most cases are billed by the hour against a retainer, and a few simple matters have a flat fee. Either way, the arrangement is in writing before any work starts.
Can I pay the retainer over time?
Ask us. For some cases we can spread a retainer over a few months.
Can I switch to another lawyer here?
Yes. If another of us is a better fit or closer to home, your file moves with you.

You don't need to have decided anything. We'll start with what's happening this week.
